Vice President Kamala Harris sent a message to people who were dissatisfied by the election’s outcome: Now is the time to keep in the battle and be true to your principles.
These were among of her most eloquent words since the 2024 election. The vice president’s address on Tuesday was the longest.
She has spoken since her concession speech after losing to President-elect Donald Trump in November.
“The story of America’s progress when we have made progress, in many ways, is the story of people who stayed true to their ideals, even in the face of difficulty,” she said.
“The movements for civil rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights, the United States of America itself … would never have come to be if people had given up.
Their cause after a court case or a battle or an election did not go their way.” Following the election, Harris said that she had received “tens of thousands of letters” from citizens all around the country expressing “disappointment.”
