A college gymnast, age 21, was shot and killed in her off-campus apartment. Her boyfriend, 23, was taken into custody

A deadly shooting occurred at the off-campus residence of 21-year-old Kara Welsh of Wisconsin-Whitewater,

Who won an individual championship in the vault in 2023. The location of the incident was around one block from the university campus.

The suspect, whom the police think Welsh knew and who was subsequently identified by her friends as her lover, was discovered by them when they got at the site, according to the New York Post.

According to the police statement, “a 23-year-old male who was known to the deceased female was also present in the apartment.”

“It was found through investigation that there had been an altercation between the two prior to the shooting.”

The 23-year-old male was detained and charged with first-degree intentional murder, endangering safety by using a dangerous weapon, and disorderly behavior while armed,
