According to the inquiry, a paramedic was at a meeting when she had the opportunity to assist a dying motorcycle father of five who died after waiting for treatment for 54 minutes.

An inquest has heard that a paramedic might have been at an accident that killed a father-of-five on his expectant wife’s birthday, but she was in an unnecessary meeting.

on Esh Winning, County Durham, on July 1, 2022, Aaron Morris, 31, who was about to become a father to twins, was left laying on the road for over an hour when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle.

Aaron waited for a paramedic for 54 minutes until he passed away at University Hospital of North Durham later that day, even though an ambulance was supposed to be on the site within 18 minutes after the original 999 call.

At the time of the accident, the sole Clinical Team Leader on call was attending a meeting. The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) acknowledged shortcomings in the way Aaron’s case was handled before the County Durham and Darlington Coroner’s Court on Wednesday.

Barrister Sam Harmel, speaking on behalf of Aaron’s family, requested today that Senior Assistant Coroner Crispin Oliver take neglect into account when determining how Aaron died.

At the time of the incident, Samantha Morris, the father’s wife, was celebrating her birthday and thirteen weeks pregnant with twins.
