As medical professionals treat patients in hospital gyms and hallways, the flu “tidal wave” continues to rise.

As NHS employees experience pressures from the “quad-demic” as severe as at the peak of the Covid-19 epidemic, the flu outbreak continues to rise.

New NHS data indicates that there were an average of 5,408 flu patients in beds in England each day last week,

Up 21% from 4,469 the week before and almost five times the level at the beginning of December. This indicates that hospital corridors are crowded.

“It is evident that hospitals are under extraordinary strain at the beginning of this new year, with mammoth demand stemming from this ongoing cold weather snap and respiratory viruses like flu,”

Said Professor Sir Stephen Powis, medical director of NHS England. Some A&E staff members have reported that their workdays.
