Colin Farrell’s home is a whirlwind of activity that is completely out of his element.
James, Farrell’s son and a patient with the uncommon neurogenetic condition Angelman syndrome, is being closely monitored by camera and film crews as they scurry about their hillside Los Angeles home. James is twenty years old.
James, who has trouble communicating verbally, and his live-in caretaker are enjoying a game of catch in the backyard.
In order to include the neighboring journalist in his game, he looks her in the eye and quickly tosses the toy basketball in her way.
The joy in James’ eyes upon seeing Farrell pales in contrast to the palpable joy in his father’s chest as he watches others show such tender affection toward his kid.
“I hope everyone will treat James with kindness,” the actor tells PEOPLE. “I hope everyone will be considerate and respectful toward him.”
