Tragically, 94-year-old comedian Bob Newhart has died of natural causes. He was famous for playing the average guy in two classic TV comedies.
The comedic timing of Newhart’s portrayals of low-key individuals was spot-on; in other contexts, they would have been setting up punchlines for other actors.
Newhart passed away at his Los Angeles home after “a series of short illnesses,” according to his longtime publicist Jerry Digney.
Beginning with a groundbreaking stand-up record in 1960, Newhart went on to appear in a string of critically acclaimed sitcoms that aired from the 1970s through the 1980s,
kicking off a six-decade career. He was considered one of the greatest comedians of all time for his deadpan, clean comedy delivered with a little stutter.
