A statement supporting Khelif’s eligibility to participate in the games was issued on Thursday by the International Olympic Committee.
A declaration reading, “Every person has the right to practice sport without discrimination,” was read aloud.
“All athletes participating in the boxing tournament of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 comply with the competition’s eligibility and entry regulations, as well as all applicable medical regulations set by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit (PBU).”
Recognizing the IBA as a worldwide governing organization, the IOC notably rescinded its recognition in 2023.
The boxing organization called it a “tremendous error,” according to Reuters. Allegedly, a slew of concerns with ethics, governance, and finances led to the withdrawal.
