Over 100,000 inhabitants are under evacuation orders, and the Los Angeles Times reports that five verified fatalities have occurred so far.
The fire has also destroyed almost 2,000 residences, businesses, and other structures. The whole Pacific Palisades neighbourhood in Southern California has been evacuated.
“Everyone keeps saying ‘apocalyptic,’ but that doesn’t begin to cover it,” CNN’s Leigh Waldman said from the scene.
