The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has reportedly revoked Algerian boxer Imane Khelif’s Olympic gold medal and an incredible $25 million in prize money, in a spectacular turn of events.
The sports community has been rocked by the decision, which was purportedly taken in response to disclosures of a contentious gender test result.
After the International Boxing Association (IBA) barred Khelif from a 2023 world championship for failing a gender eligibility test, the controversy around her started to emerge.
Sources close to the organization said that the test revealed inconsistencies that raised questions about her eligibility to compete in the women’s division.
However, Khelif strongly denied any misconduct, claiming that she has always participated in fair and open competition.
