All Republicans voted in favour of the proposal, which ultimately passed the House 264-159. In the end, 48 Democrats supported the measure.
The Senate will now consider it. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson criticised the 159 Democrats who voted against the Laken Riley Act in a statement after the vote.
