Mexico’s Israel Vazquez, a three-time super bantamweight world champion, tragically died at the age of 46. Mauricio Sulaiman, head of the World Boxing Council (WBC), verified the news on Wednesday.
“Israel may now slumber in peace at last. Sulaiman said on social media, “May God grant his wife Laura, their kids, family, and friends courage and support during these trying times.”
“I appreciate you making such a lasting impression, champion. “El Magnifico” will always be your name.
Less than a month after making his cancer diagnosis public, Vázquez, 46, also known as “El Magnifico,” passed away from sarcoma.
After becoming pro in 1995, Vázquez’s career was characterized by his lightning-fast reflexes and powerful punches.
