Meredith Vieira’s spouse, award-winning journalist Richard Cohen, passes away at the age of 76.

Meredith Vieira’s former “Today” host spouse, award-winning journalist Richard Cohen, passed away after a two-month battle with pneumonia, according to Vieira’s representative. His age was 76.

Michael Gantz, Vieira’s representative, told USA TODAY on Tuesday that Cohen passed away on Christmas Eve. The revelation was initially reported by the Hudson Independent.

According to the “Today” program, Cohen had two cancer treatments before receiving a multiple sclerosis diagnosis more than 50 years ago.

After over 40 years of marriage, Vieira and Cohen had three children together: Benjamin, age 36; Gabriel, age 34; and Lily, age 32.

Before joining CNN, Cohen was a journalist who won three Emmys for his work at CBS News. Additionally, he worked for ABC and PBS.
