A British adolescent who was imprisoned in Dubai due to a romantic vacation might have his sentence extended to 20 years.
Tottenham resident Marcus Fakana, 18, was given a sentence for having consensual sex with a British-Indian girl, then 17 years old, while on holiday.
He was detained for days at the “notorious” Al Barsha Police Station after the girl’s mother denounced him to the Dubai authorities.
Even if their relationship is lawful in the UK, Dubai law considers a 17-year-old to be a kid. A legal team is worried.
That prosecutors may reconsider his one-year sentence in light of the most recent events in order to avoid seeming “weak.”
According to reports, Marcus and his family are “freaking out” at the prospect that prosecutors may request an extension of his one-year sentence.
