Despite losing his boxing battle in Paris 2024, the first openly transgender man to participate in an Olympic Games nevertheless made history.
On Wednesday (31 July), the women’s 75kg battle featured Chinese fighter Li Qian and Filipino fighter Hergie Bacyadan.
While participating in the women’s events at Paris 2024, Bacyadan identifies as a transgender man but has not begun hormone replacement treatment.
Bacyadan fought Qian for three rounds in an effort to upset the two-time Olympic medalist, who won bronze in Rio and silver in Tokyo.
