An unanticipated tragedy has interrupted a Team USA athlete’s 2024 Olympic journey—her sister-in-law died suddenly.
Maggie Steffens, the captain of the country’s water polo team, is grieving the death of her husband’s younger sister, Lulu Conner, who passed away after visiting Paris, France, to support the Olympian squad.
The tragic news was verified by the three-time gold medallist to the Associated Press on July 28. She said that the 26-year-old passed away as a result of a “medical emergency”.
Lulu, 31, said she had been “so excited” to be watching the squad at the athletic event, despite the fact that the circumstances surrounding her death remain unknown.
