The ‘epidemic’ of throat malignancies is being attributed mostly to oral sex, according to oncologists. Sexually transmitted infections are the primary cause of oropharyngeal cancer, a kind of cancer.
Whose rates have been increasing since the mid-2000s. Girls are vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV) from a young age since it is often associated with cervical cancer.
However, in the United States and the United Kingdom, oropharyngeal cancer has surpassed cervical cancer in incidence.
And the biggest risk factor for this particular kind of throat cancer is the amount of sexual partners one has had during one’s career.
People who have had six or more oral sex partners in their lives are 8.5 times more likely to get cancer than those who do not engage in oral sex, according to a Conversation article.
