In a surprise meeting arranged by Emmanuel Macron in advance of Notre-Dame’s reopening, Volodymyr Zelensky praised Donald Trump’s desire to end the conflict in Ukraine “as soon as possible.”

“The world is going a little crazy right now,” Mr. Trump said, adding that the three men met on Saturday at the Élysée Palace to discuss their cooperation on “defence and offense” in Ukraine.

In his first interaction with the Royal family since he left office in 2021, the president-elect also had a meeting with the Prince of Wales outside the event.

Later on Saturday evening, they were scheduled to have a formal meeting to talk about the “special relationship” between the US and Britain.
