105-year-old great-grandmother runs 100 meters faster than anybody else in history at US Senior Games

“I can take a lot of pride in my accomplishments,” she said. It was really chilly and breezy. However, given the conditions that day, that seemed to be the greatest option available to me.

Several of Hawkins’s former students were there to cheer her on while she ran the marathon, which was a touching touch considering that she is a retired teacher.

“Three students from three separate schools where I was a teacher were present at that race. Additionally, they are ninety years old. When I taught them, they were in fourth grade; today they’re ninety! Then you know my age,” she said.

Although she was let down by her failure to run the 100-meter sprint in under a minute, she was pleasantly delighted to earn first place in the 105+ years category.

She stunned everyone by winning first place in the race and setting a new world record; her family couldn’t be happier for her.

“It was possible, I guess; after all, not many seniors engage in such activities,” she admitted. There were very few runners when I first began out, and they weren’t really elites.
