The chaotic scene was captured on video, showing all individuals quickly fleeing — including the suspects’ getaway driver, who sped off, leaving them behind.
Brown and Hayes also ran from the scene but were soon located and taken into custody by authorities. Both individuals, who were under parole supervision.
At the time, sustained minor injuries that were not life-threatening. Brown was reportedly struck in the upper thigh, while Hayes suffered a similar injury to his lower leg.
The incident occurred during a period when Los Angeles was experiencing a significant increase in public safety concerns. According to the Daily Mail, the city saw a 43.2% rise in shooting-related.
Incidents, while Fox News reported a 25% increase in overall serious incidents, with South LA witnessing a 50% jump in similar cases.
LAPD officials have said they are “actively investigating this case along with other recent incidents in the Melrose area as part of a broader response to increased criminal activity.”
