In an interview with Elle, Anderson spoke more about her decision to forgo makeup, calling it “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too.”
“I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older,” she said. And when I look in the mirror, I find myself sort of chuckling at myself. “Wow, this is really happening to me,” I think to myself. It’s an adventure.
The most moving explanation for Anderson’s decision to forego makeup, however, has nothing to do with trends or fashion.
Rather, it is directly related to the death of her close friend and makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, who passed away from breast cancer in 2019.
“She was the finest. And ever then, I’ve simply thought that not wearing makeup is preferable for me without Alexis,” Anderson said with poignancy.
