Peanut the Squirrel, a beloved companion and internet phenomenon, was euthanized after being confiscated by the state of New York.

Authorities seized and murdered a renowned squirrel from its residence after alleging that it bit a government official.

Peanut the Squirrel may be a familiar face to you, and not only because he resembles a typical untamed rodent, but also because he has likely appeared on your feed at some point.

The cuddly squirrel achieved national recognition seven years ago when its owners clothed it in adorable costumes, including a cowboy, and taught it routines.

Regrettably, the animal’s life was cut short when the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) confiscated it,

Along with ‘Fred the raccoon’, and subsequently euthanized both on Wednesday (October 30). Upon sharing the news on Instagram, its proprietor, Mark Longo, wrote, “Well, internet, you have won.”
