The surprise reason why cabin crew members keep their hands behind their thighs during takeoff and landing is explained by a flight attendant.

Henny Lim, a flight attendant with Cebu Pacific, a Philippine airline, recently shared an amusing tidbit about a task performed by the cabin crew during takeoff and landing on TikTok.

In particular, Lim described the “bracing position,” which is the reason why cabin crew members belt up in their jump seats before sitting on their hands prior to the aircraft landing.

“This position involves fastening seatbelts securely, sitting upright, sitting on hands – arms up, thumbs tucked – and arms loose, and feet flat on the floor,”

She said in the video she shared on social media. This flight attendant further clarified that the purpose of maintaining.

This rigid position is to lessen the possibility of bodily harm in the event of an unforeseen emergency. This limits bodily mobility, reducing the possibility of harm in the event of a collision.
