Two former Major League Baseball players were among the more than 100 persons killed when the roof of a nightclub collapsed in the Dominican Republic. On Tuesday morning (April 8),
At about 1am local time, the ceiling of the Jet Set nightclub in the capital city of Santo Domingo abruptly collapsed, leaving at least 300 people inside, including former sportsmen Tony Blanco and Octavio Dotel.
When the event occurred, merengue performer Rubby Pérez and his orchestra were entertaining the gathering. Rescue personnel hurried to the area to start looking through the debris.
The Emergency Operations Center’s director, Juan Manuel Méndez, provided an update on the situation today (April 9) and said that the structure fell, killing at least 113 people,
including Dotel, Blanco, and performer Pérez. Sadly, Dotel passed away on route to the hospital, even though he had been alive when he was pulled from the wreckage.
