An executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico has been signed by President Donald Trump. The Mexican government did not approve of the decision.
Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico, completely supported Trump’s claim that he can name the body of water whatever he wants, but only for the American portion.
He claims that on its continental shelf, he will refer to it as the “Gulf of America.”
According to the Associated Press, Sheinbaum stated on Tuesday, January 21, “It is still the Gulf of Mexico for us and for the entire world.”
Prior to taking office, Trump supported the concept of renaming the body of water. It felt “appropriate,” he said.
