On his way home from chemotherapy, a man with cancer was shot at on I-70.

COLUMBUS — In what he considers to be an unjustified attack, a Columbus man was fired at on I-70 while driving home from a chemotherapy appointment.

From his hospital bed at Grant Medical Center, Jesse, who requested to be identified only by his first name, chatted with our Columbus news partner WBNS-TV via Zoom.

As he drove home after his chemotherapy session on Tuesday morning, Jesse claimed the situation soon came to light. Jesse fights multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer.

He slowed down, and when I heard a loud sound, I realized he had collided with my truck. Jesse remarked, “I didn’t want to let him in front because I didn’t want him to be able to stop me and keep shooting. He tried to keep getting in front of me.”

While attempting to escape the driver, Jesse managed to make a 911 call. He informed them that someone in a gold Chevrolet Equinox had shot him in the face.

WBNS-TV reports that a witness to the incident also dialed 911. According to the dispatcher, the witness believed that the two cars were brake-checking one another and that the gunshot may have been the result of road rage.
