Idaho Police Body Cam Captures Officers Shooting Teen with Autism

Body cam footage of a tragic encounter involving a teen with autism has been released by Idaho police, showing how quickly the situation escalated.

Police shared video footage Thursday from the Pocatello Police Department, capturing officers engaging with 17-year-old Victor Perez just seconds after arriving on the scene and exiting their vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers observed Victor struggling with family members while on the ground in a fenced yard, appearing to handle a knife. Officers drew their weapons and shouted,

“Drop the knife!” Moments later, Perez—still holding the object—stood up and moved toward the officers, who were standing on the other side of a chain-link fence.

Officials said one officer used a bean-bag round, while three others discharged their service weapons. Two of Victor’s family members were visible nearby, slightly behind him and off to the side.
