Avery Koonce, a talented athlete from Texas’ Thrall High School, gained notoriety by setting records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. However, her bright trajectory ended tragically at the age of 19.
Emergency personnel were called to Avery’s dorm room at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs on September 4, 2024.
They discovered the devastating fact that Avery was not responding. Everyone was looking for explanations because there were no outward indications of trauma.
After fellow cadets found her unconscious, an immediate investigation was conducted to find out what had happened to the young cadet with such a promising future.
Later, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office disclosed that Avery passed away from pneumonia-related complications.
She specifically had parainfluenza laryngotracheobronchitis, a serious viral infection of the lower respiratory system, which led to Paeniclostridium sordellii sepsis.
