After shooting an elderly man in the head early Saturday during a botched robbery attempt on Broad Street, an Augusta couple is charged with aggravated assault, according to officials.
On warrants, 28-year-old convicted criminal Da’Mon Cole and 27-year-old Destiny Reeves are accused of shooting a 61-year-old Edgefield, South Carolina, man.
According to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff Lewis Blanchard, the person was classified in serious condition at Wellstar MCG Health on Saturday morning. The victim’s identity is still unknown.
The incident happened in the 900 block of Broad Street at 2:12 a.m. on Saturday, just as local pubs and nightclubs were winding down for the night.
A 61-year-old Caucasian man with a gunshot wound to his head was discovered by deputies who were already on foot patrol in the vicinity.
According to the authorities, Cole concealed behind a vehicle on Broad Street while Reeves approached the victim. According to Reeves, they intended to rob the guy.
