At the age of 72, Mike Wood, the creator of the well-known LeapFrog toy business, committed physician-assisted suicide in Switzerland.
According to Wood’s brother Tim, who verified the information to The New York Times, he had the surgery on Thursday, April 10 at the charity Dignitas in Zurich. According to the publication,
He passed away “surrounded by family.” Tim clarified that Mike decided to take his own life while undergoing Alzheimer’s disease therapy. According to the Times,
He wished to take this action “before the disease progressed too far.” In a statement on Mike’s passing, LeapFrog said on Instagram:
“We are very grieved by the passing of LeapFrog creator, Mike Wood. He was a creative leader whose drive to discover a fresh approach to teaching his kid resulted in something extraordinary.
