A Texas teen who stabbed a fellow student to death during a bathroom fight was found not guilty of murder.

A jury found a teenager not guilty of murder after he fatally stabbed a classmate during a quarrel at school.

According to an arrest complaint obtained by PEOPLE, 21-year-old Caysen Allison admitted to killing 18-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez Jr. on May 3, 2022, at Belton High School, waiving his right

against self-incrimination.In his opening and closing remarks, defense lawyer Zachary Boyd contended that Allison had acted in self-defense when he

was compelled to engage in combat with Ramirez and many of his associates that day. When jurors were presented with the choice of convicting Allison of murder,

manslaughter, or criminally negligent homicide, they chose the lesser of the three charges—criminally negligent homicide—seemingly to agree with that argument.

Before rendering its decision, the jury deliberated for a total of twelve hours.According to court documents, Allison will now return to court on June 19 for a sentencing hearing, where he could be

Sentenced to anywhere from six months to two years in a state detention facility and face a fine of up to $10,000.
