A significant development in Trump’s conflict with Maine on transgender sports as he makes an unexpected choice

In the midst of his spat with the state over transgender students participating in school athletics, Donald Trump has made an unexpected U-turn with Maine.

The president’s executive order prohibiting trans athletes from participating in women’s sports sparked a contentious discussion with Maine Governor Janet Mills earlier this year.

During a February 21 meeting, Trump informed Mills that she had to implement the directive and threatened to withhold state support,

including federal cash for school administration and technology, if she didn’t.We are under federal law, therefore you had better do it, the president informed her.

Since you won’t receive federal assistance, you had better do it. Men are not wanted in women’s sports by your populace.

The quick response from Mills was, “We’ll see you in court.””All right. In court, I’ll see you. I’ll be anticipating that.
