Wanda Barzee is once again encountering legal complications.
More than two decades after the now 79-year-old abducted then-14-year-old Elizabeth Smart in 2002 and kept her hidden for nine months.
Barzee was taken into custody on May 1 in Utah for entering multiple public parks—an activity that is prohibited under her status as a registered offender.
Online booking records obtained by E! News indicate that Barzee has been charged with one count of violating the conditions associated with her registration as an offender in the state of Utah.
Brent Weisberg, a representative for the Salt Lake City Police Department, informed NBC News that Barzee allegedly visited both Liberty Park and Sugar House Park during the previous month.
Under Utah State law, individuals on the sex offender registry are barred from accessing public parks, which are officially classified as “protected areas.”
