A mother is being investigated for allegedly dousing her kids in gasoline while they were asleep and then setting them on fire in a horrifying house fire in Queensland.

When the house on Merritt Street in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, caught fire at around 12.30 am on Wednesday, six people were able to flee.

At Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, 36-year-old Ellouisa Brighton Gibson is under police guard and in critical condition.

Gibson’s two girls, ages four and seven, were saved but eventually passed away from their wounds, while her nine-year-old son perished in the fire and his body was discovered after it was put out.

The same bedroom had been used by the three dead youngsters to sleep. Along with two other kids, Gibson’s 34-year-old boyfriend managed to escape with only minor injuries.

According to the police, the fire is being investigated as suspicious. The Australian reported that petrol was discovered near the front of the house, according to people involved with the investigation.
