Bill Gates intends to donate almost all of his wealth over the course of 20 years and close his foundation: I don’t want someone to remark, “He died rich.”

In a blog post on Thursday, billionaire Bill Gates revealed his intention to close the Gates Foundation and donate almost all of his personal fortune within 20 years.

Gates, 69, stated, “When I die, people will say a lot of things about me, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them.”

“I can’t keep resources that could be used to help people because I have too many pressing issues to deal with.”

The co-founder of Microsoft, whose net worth is now estimated by Bloomberg to be $168 billion, has long promised to donate the majority of his fortune to his charitable foundation.

In a July 2022 social media post, he stated that his ultimate objective is to be removed “from the list of the world’s richest people.”

Gates has now established a deadline for allocating his wealth: the Gates Foundation will shut down on December 31, 2045.

More than $100 billion has been donated to global causes since the Foundation’s founding in 2000.
