With Donald Trump announcing plans to restore the infamous jail, a former inmate of Alcatraz has shared what almost caused him to “cry” over the experience the most.
Trump announced plans to restore the notorious jail on an island off the coast of San Francisco on May 4.
He wrote on Truth Social: “OPEN ALCATRAZ AND REBUILD! The dregs of society, cruel, violent, and serial criminal offenders, have plagued America for far too long and will only ever bring misery and suffering.
“In the past, when we were a more serious country, we had no qualms about locking up the most dangerous offenders and keeping them far away from anyone they may hurt. That is how things should be.
And who would Trump choose to send to prison? Trump referred to them as “serial offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets.”
In 1955, Charlie Hopkins was taken to Alcatraz. In 1952, he was transported to a jail in Jacksonville, Florida, after receiving a 17-year sentence for kidnapping and robbery.
