A female prison officer who attempted to conceive a child with a high-risk inmate and engaged in an inappropriate relationship with him multiple times while on duty has avoided jail.

Cherri-Ann Austin-Saddington, 29, became infatuated with inmate Bradley Trengrove after he was transferred to HMP The Verne in Portland, Dorset.

The two began a six-month relationship that included repeated encounters in prison workshops when no one else was present.

Austin-Saddington, who was a prison warden at the time, became pregnant by Trengrove, though she later suffered a miscarriage. During the course of their relationship,

Austin-Saddington smuggled a mobile phone into the Category C facility so they could stay in contact. She saved his contact under “husband to be,” according to court documents.

After Trengrove, 31, was relocated to another prison, she visited him under a false identity. So emotionally involved was she that she participated in a plan to attempt conception once more.
