Engaged Parents of 4-Year-Old Boy Die in Separate Car Crashes Within Hours of Each Other

A tragic series of car crashes claimed the lives of a young engaged couple from Louisiana just hours apart, leaving behind their 4-year-old son.

According to Louisiana State Police, 25-year-old Alexus Lee of Baton Rouge and 35-year-old John “JR” Collins of Clinton were killed in separate single-vehicle accidents early in the morning on May 16.

The couple, who had recently become engaged and purchased a home together, shared a son named Gabriel.

The First Crash

The first accident occurred shortly after 2 a.m., when troopers responded to a call involving Lee’s 2013 Toyota Highlander.

Authorities say the vehicle veered off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned. Lee, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene from her injuries.

The Second Crash

Police then contacted Collins to inform him of the crash. In a devastating twist, just over an hour later—at approximately 3:45 a.m.—troopers were dispatched to a second accident involving Collins himself.
