Legendary musician Billy Joel has been diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a rare brain condition that affects balance, memory, and mobility.
The diagnosis has prompted the 76-year-old artist to cancel all of his scheduled performances through 2026, according to a statement released Friday.
NPH causes a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain’s ventricles, leading to symptoms such as walking difficulties, urinary issues, and cognitive changes.
Although potentially reversible if treated early, the disorder can severely impact quality of life without proper care.
Joel’s medical team advised him to begin a focused physical therapy regimen and to stop performing while he recovers.
“Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.
