At the 2024 ESPYs, Serena Williams took aim at Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Quinta Brunson, a performer from Abbott Elementary, and tennis star Venus Williams were onstage together. Venus was using a teleprompter.
Watching women’s sports should be enjoyed “like you would any other sports because they are sports,” Venus said in a speech, urging the audience to do just that.
Serena interrupted at this moment in the address to make a comment on Harrison Butker, who had been in the crowd at Thursday’s (July 11) awards show at the Dolby Theater.
“Except you, Harrison Butker, we don’t need you,” Serena stated to Butker while staring into the camera.
