A woman has opened up about her experience of having two vaginas and “no bum” due to a medical ailment.
The 26-year-old Anja Christoffersen was born with a chronic illness known as VACTERL association.
These are an extremely unusual and intricate group of birth abnormalities that start to develop very early in an embryo.
In addition to affecting the anus and genitalia’s physical makeup, it can cause anomalies in the tracheoesophagus, heart, kidney, vertebrae, and limbs.Between one in 10,000 and one in 40,000 babies have the syndrome. For Anja, this meant that she had no anal canal and two vaginas at birth.
Her particular ailment is even rarer—it only manifests in one out of every 50,000 births.
