The guy who raped her daughter was sentenced to death after the mother set fire to him. Verónica Rodríguez García,
a 13-year-old girl from Benejúzar in Alicante, Spain, was held at knifepoint while being raped by Antonio Cosme, a 63-year-old neighbor, in October 1998.
The experience was far from finished, however, once Cosme was found guilty and condemned to jail.
According to Meaww, community members were deeply split when the adolescent accused her neighbor of rape;
some refused to believe the crime could have happened, while others rallied around the accused.
María del Carmen García, who was left to care for her traumatized daughter Verónica, had to endure harsh opinions while still seeking to seek justice.
After being found guilty and given a nine-year jail term, Antonio Cosme allegedly ran into María seven years after being released on parole.
