An outbreak of Avian Bird Flu in House Cats: Calm Down, J.D. Vance

Researchers have discovered that a fatal type of avian bird flu is spreading to house cats, so cat owners need to worry about more than just J.D. Vance these days.

The H5N1 bird flu has been devastating American farm animals for the last 2.5 years, killing 100 million birds and affecting around 200 dairy farm herds. Currently, it is affecting indoor cats.

Although the New York Times reported that at least 21 cats have contracted it, researchers believe the numbers aren’t very high yet.

What’s worrying is how the cats are catching it. That one makes sense; one of the incidents included a cat that was raised on a dairy farm.
