Minnesota home after a celebration with friends marking the conclusion of his spring semester at a nearby college.

Swanson chose to go early in the morning to his parent’s house in the town of Marshall, southwest of the state capital of Minneapolis, rather than spending the night at a friend’s house.

Swanson would not be going home this time, even though he was familiar with the route from his frequent college commute.

Swanson called his parents just before two in the morning on May 14 to let them know he had drove his vehicle
