Olympic runner who was reportedly set on fire by her lover is in serious condition.

An Olympic runner is reportedly burned alive by a former partner who doused her with gasoline. Her condition is severe.

Rebecca Cheptegei, a 33-year-old marathon runner from Uganda who was just a competitor in the Olympics in Paris, was attacked horribly in western Kenya.

According to BBC News, Cheptegei’s ex-boyfriend reportedly doused her in gasoline and set her on fire, severely burning over 75% of her body.

Cheptegei was exercising at her house in the little hamlet of Endebess when the alleged incident happened. After the event on Sunday, neighbors allegedly came to her aid.

In Eldoret, the region’s largest town, Cheptegei is now undergoing treatment at Moi Referral Hospital together with the suspected assailant, who also suffered severe burns.
