Days after her lover “poured gasoline on her and set her on fire,” an Olympic athlete passes away, according to authorities

Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei sadly died, according to Ugandan authorities, after being “set on fire and doused in gasoline” by a former partner.

The 33-year-old marathon runner, who represented her native Uganda in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris,

reportedly had a fight with her partner on Monday, September 2, which led to burns over 75% of her body, according to the BBC.

“The couple’s argument was overheard outside their residence. According to the magazine, Trans Nzoia County

Police Commander Jeremiah Ole Kosiom said that the lover was seen pouring a substance on the lady during the dispute before setting her on fire.
