Hollywood classic The Goonies (starring a reuniting of the original cast) “given the green light for a sequel 40 years after the original”

Reportedly, the original Goonies ensemble, which included a who’s who of Hollywood A-listers, is slated to reunite for a sequel that will be released 40 years after the first.

Steven Spielberg produced and Richard Donner directed the critically acclaimed adventure comedy from 1985.

The ensemble is supposedly due to make a triumphant comeback next summer as filming on the sequel is said to begin, according to The Sun.

The ‘green light’ to produce the sequel has been extended, and it may premiere in theaters as early as 2026. According to an insider, production is about to begin on the long-awaited remake of The Goonies.

The sequel is set to be developed in the summer of 2026 or 2027, with a potential release date in either of those years.
