Amid a string of gaffes on her Lifetimes world tour, Katy Perry has finally spoken out about being the “most hated person on the Internet.”
On May 12, the 40-year-old Teenage Dream hitmaker, who was made fun of for her “mom moves” on the first night of the tour last month, performed in front of a sold-out audience at Chicago’s United Center. The emotional diva spoke to the applauding audience.
In a fan-shot video, the celebrity pauses to survey her fan base and remarks, “Well, I thought I was the most hated person on the internet.”
“I believe that to be untrue.” The cheering grew louder, and Perry gushed.
In support of her seventh studio album, 143, which was heavily criticized by critics upon its debut in September, the California Gurls singer began her Lifetimes Tour in Mexico last month and will now travel throughout North America.
Compared to the singer’s peak, ticket sales for the tour have been weak; hundreds of unsold seats for her May 21 performance at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, are still available for as little as $50.
