When Kenigsberg visited the property, he was astounded to see that not only had the trees been removed from the lot, but that an almost finished house worth $1.45 million had been built in their stead.
According to documents, 51 Sky Top Partners LLC, a developer, purchased the property in October 2022 for $350,000. The buyer started constructing a lavish house on the property because they thought the deal was real.
But the transaction was far from legal.
According to the Washington Post, the land was sold by a person in Johannesburg, South Africa, who allegedly used a phony passport to pose as Dr. Kenigsberg.
Kevin Kneupper, a consumer protection attorney, described the process on TikTok: “Going to find out who owns land is fairly simple. Depending on your state, you can actually just go if you haven’t done any searches on this in most counties.
