A man discovers that someone has constructed a $1.5 million home on the land he purchased in 1991 when he goes home.

“But in many places, you just search online, they’ll have databases, so they could find out real easily who’s the actual owner and then just pretend to be him.”

According to reports, the con artist claimed legal authority to sell the land by presenting a counterfeit power of attorney and registering an address in Johannesburg.

Even though the passport used contained a mismatched photo, an erroneous address, and an incorrect birthdate, it managed to persuade developers and attorneys that they were speaking with the genuine Dr. Kenigsberg.

@kevinkneupper A man named Daniel Kenigsberg from Fairfield, Connecticut owned a piece of land next to his childhood home – and he was surprised to hear from one of his friends that someone was building a house there! He took a trip back to his hometown and discovered a $1.5 million dollar mansion on his property that someone else had built. After investigating he and his attorney discovered that someone in South Africa had forged a power of attorney in his name and sold the property to a development company without the real Daniel Kenigsberg even knowing! Now he’s suing to get his land back. Patch claims that the fraudster even created a phony passport in Kenigsberg’s name, and the deception was sufficient to complete the $350,000 transaction.

According to a lawsuit brought in reaction to the transaction, “Dr. Kenigsberg has never lived in Johannesburg, South Africa, and was not traveling there in 2022.”
