Authorities Issue Statement After Woman Has ‘Heart Removed’ On Vacation

They say the hospital said it was due to ‘concerns with her heart’

which could have involved serious cardiac diagnostics, pre-existing heart conditions, or even hospital equipment failure, all of which are typically covered by comprehensive travel insurance policies.

The family has now set up a GoFundMe, which at the time of writing has raised more than £250,000 ($338,000) — a stark reminder of the high out-of-pocket hospital costs and lack of international medical coverage for travelers in distress.

A close friend of Martin’s, called Ellie, told The Sun about the strange behavior they apparently witnessed at the hospital:

“All they went on about is ‘Are you going to sue the hospital? Sign this bit of paper.’
I said: ‘Is there something we should be suing for? Do you know something we don’t? Because that’s really suspicious.’”
