which could have involved serious cardiac diagnostics, pre-existing heart conditions, or even hospital equipment failure, all of which are typically covered by comprehensive travel insurance policies.
The family has now set up a GoFundMe, which at the time of writing has raised more than £250,000 ($338,000) — a stark reminder of the high out-of-pocket hospital costs and lack of international medical coverage for travelers in distress.
A close friend of Martin’s, called Ellie, told The Sun about the strange behavior they apparently witnessed at the hospital:
“All they went on about is ‘Are you going to sue the hospital? Sign this bit of paper.’
I said: ‘Is there something we should be suing for? Do you know something we don’t? Because that’s really suspicious.’”
